More Information
We have once again teamed up with our long term friends and partners Agri Evolve, a Social Enterprise / Profit for Purpose organisation, working with smallholder farmers in Uganda to improve quality and quantity of agricultural crops and bring about sustainable development through excellent business practice. Through extensive training, farmers learn how to improve their agronomic and harvesting practices.
This particular coffee comes from Mahango, a village 1800m up in the Rwenzori Mountains. This lot will predominately come from the smallholder farmers in the Mahango area who bring their harvest to the Rwenzori coffee company's buying station from where the ripest, freshest, and best cherries will be selected for sun drying at their Nyabirongo processing station.
What makes this particular crop so special is its processing. Unlike most naturally processed coffees, the cherries from Mahango undergo a controlled 48-hour anaerobic fermentation in water, before then being transferred to drying beds. This results in much more vibrant and fragrant flavours, boosting the coffee’s quality and therefore value.
The resulting cup we think is delicious, with an unmistakeable cacao body, bursting with juicy notes on top of sweet strawberries and raspberry.
