Joy in a cup

To create our annual ‘Festive Blend’ we search for coffees that have tasting notes which are reminiscent of the flavour of Christmas and combine these in a truly unique seasonal blend – this year is no exception.

This year it includes a natural Honduran coffee from Ana Cecilia.  When we first tasted this beautifully rounded coffee it jumped out at us as creamy hazelnut chocolate with notes of cinnamon and clove...

So we blended it with...

A wonderful Rwandan washed coffee from Rwamutamu, which added a jammy complexity with a pleasant sweet caramel aftertaste.

Have it black, with milk, or even with a splash of booze, it, to us, is pure Christmas.

Honduras Ana Cecilia Estevez is a coffee producer that lives in the municipality of Corquín Copan, Honduras. She is fanatical about coffee, and is fascinated by production and quality of coffee. For four years she has been working for the Aruco Company, where she has gained a lot of experience in the area of roast and coffee quality control. In addition to working at The ARUCO Company, she is also a partner of the same.

There, through the technical assistance department, she has received support for the preparation of special coffee micro-lots. In this process, she has obtained the knowledge to harvest excellent quality coffee and improved her production practices, in order to achieve greater profitability for better personal and family development opportunities. Now, Ana's plot of land, not only has coffee, but has been diversified with timber species, fruit trees, ornamentals and others that beyond beautifying the landscape, provide a more pleasant and conducive ecosystem for the life of wildlife.

Rwamatamu

Rwamatamu Coffee is a family business owned and operated by Mukantwaza Laetitia and Rutaganda Gaston, who have been in the coffee sector for 13+ years. They founded Rwamatamu in 2015 aiming for a financial gain,  but also to contribute to fight against poverty in rural communities through harvesting coffee. Rwamatamu Coffee has 20 hectares of coffee plantation from where it harvests its own cherries but also purchases cherries from affiliate co-operatives and local producer families and smallholder farmers. These cherries from different sources are separately collected, processed, sun-dried, sorted bagged and eventually exported as a premium product.

Rwamatamu’s coffee farm and washing station are located in the Western province of Rwanda, where the landscape consists of picturesque rolling hills flanked around Lake Kivu in Nyamasheke District.

This region provides a tropical highland climate with an average temperature of 14 to 24c and regular rainfall. This makes arabica coffee to flourish and results in a dense, hard bean with superior coffee flavour.
